4. God in the Midst of Men (Revelation 21:3-4)

HE Will Dwell With Them: Who is he who dwells in the midst of saved and sanctified men? The Almighty Creator of heaven and earth, who knows everything, is in control of everything and who is able to do everything. He is the Lord, the elementary power of the cosmos. He is the live and the light. All glory proceeds from him that is far more radiant than the sun when radiating its shafts of light and protuberances.

The Bible mentions more than 350 names and characteristics of God, as one of these names cannot describe and include his whole glory. Jesus spoke of the eternal God, “He is my Father", “Your Father” and “Our Father". Through Jesus the great, invisible God became our Father, because through the contact with him by faith we are partakers of his right as Son. Through Jesus alone we know who God is in reality, namely our Father!

In the garden Eden, before the Fall of Man, the Lord met Adam and Eve and spoke to them in person (Genesis 3:8-10 and other verses). However, both of them were expelled from the community with God because of their rebellion (Genesis 3:14-24).

In order to become again close to his stubborn creations and to change their mind (Mark 1:15), the creator of the world became flesh in Jesus (Matthew 1:23; John 1:14). Jesus healed all sick people that were brought to him, cast out devils form possessed people, raised the dead and multiplied five loaves of bread and two fishes and satisfied 5.000 of his listeners, calmed down a hurricane on the Lake of Gennesaret and taught his disciples the love of God and the pardoning in the judgment. With Jesus heaven returned to the earth. The Son of God dwelled with men visibly and perceptibly.

The proud and self-righteous, pious people, however, rejected the meek and gentle God in their midst and made him crucify by the Romans. Nevertheless he loved the rebels, reconciled them with his Father and asked for pardon for them because of his atoning death (Luke 23:34). Afterwards the Merciful sent His Spirit upon the justified failures so that He transforms them into the image of Jesus. The excess of his grace should them renew and made them to men who will delight him (Luke 2:14).

The apostle Paul testifies that the chosen justified, who become naturalized into the family of God, are not only those who are descended from the children of Jacob but also from the ignorant Gentiles. All of them will be built together for a dwelling of God in the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:14-22). This mystery is great! However, it is put into practice in the present time in every living church.

Since the first coming of Christ the Almighty Creator, Lord and judge of the world is no more the far, great, unknown and inconceivable God as Allah is in Islam. No, he has allied himself to the followers of Christ and renews them into his image. He accepts them in his family and wants to dwell with them visibly forever and ever. This small sentence, “He will dwell with them!”, will lead everybody to adoration, who has the slightest idea of the width and depth of this promise. With this small sentence the salvation plan of God has reached its goal and culmination! (Ephesians 3:14-21; 1 John 3:1-3).

PRAYER: Almighty, merciful Father in heaven, You became a man through Christ, and You took a dwelling place for Yourself through the dwelling of Your Holy Spirit in the repentant who believe in Jesus. We give thanks for Your fatherly love, and we magnify You because You sanctify the sinners and send them to those who seek God sincerely and devotedly. Amen.

QUESTION:

  1. What is the mystery of God's coming to men and His dwelling in repentant believers?
