d) The Parable of the Hidden Treasure and the Parable of the Pearl of Great Price (Matthew 13:44-46)
MATTHEW 13:44-46
44 Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. 45 Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls, 46 who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it. (Matthew 19:29, Luke 14:33, Philippians 3:7)
Many years ago, there was a high hill near a public street. People used to pass by the hill without paying any attention to it. On this hill was the remnant of an ancient city that was characterized by its important writings carved on its walls. One day while a peasant was leveling the hill using his bulldozer, he unexpectedly discovered the old castle, valuable vessels, and writings carved on the walls. Scientists were soon buzzing with joyous excitement and the officials of the state were rejoicing in the new discovery.
As the people of that city had passed by that hill for many years without noticing the treasure hidden therein, so people carelessly pass by Christ without observing that He is the greatest treasure, making everyone that turns to Him happy and blessed. The crucified One offers whoever looks at Him in faith, eternal forgiveness, and justifies him for eternal life. The believer that adheres to Him, falls on his knees and worships Him committing his life to Him thankfully for his unique redemption. We can win Christ if we put our entire life in His hands. All your aims, joys, and hope are of no value in relation to the Son of God, so sacrifice yourself to win the Donor Himself.
Those who would have a saving interest in Christ, must be willing to part with all for Him and leave all to follow Him. Whatever stands in opposition to Christ, or in competition with our love and service to Him, we must cheerfully give it up though it be ever so dear to us.
Many do not find Christ quickly, or accidentally, but must regularly search the Scriptures in search of eternal contentment. Their eyes become ready to discern the precious truth. When they discover Christ in His reality and see His kind love, they become overwhelmed by His greatness with much zeal. They soon recognize that God’s incarnate love is incomparable in our world. This is why they leave all their empty philosophies, legalistic doctrines, and perishable principles to win the unique Savior that makes up for everything else.
Did you find Christ unexpectedly or after a long study? Seek Him by praying and reading the Bible. We are witnesses that He found us and gave us Himself.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, We never sought You or Your Son before, but You sought us and found us at last. Thank You for Your care for us. We ask You to deliver us from every worldly engagement that we may leave what belongs to this world and win Your Son. Proclaim Yourself to many in our surroundings that they may recognize You and leave all their worldly thoughts and treasures and abide in Your kindness.
